"Lam Tia" is a traditional folk play enjoyed during the Songkran festival by the villagers of Ban Non Than, Mueang District, Khon Kaen Province. Initiated around 1935 by Mrs. Nimnuan Suwannakut, it was created to bring joy and entertainment to the village's young men and women during the festive season. The performance features an antiphonal singing style, consisting of short, interactive verses exchanged between male and female performers to the accompaniment of the Khaen (a traditional bamboo mouth organ). A distinct characteristic of this performance is the dance posture, where performers lower their bodies and sway back and forth, giving rise to the name "Lam Tia," which translates to singing accompanied by a low-posture dance.
