"Fon Tangwai" (Roi Et College of Dramatic Arts Edition) is a performance further developed in 1981 from the Ubon Ratchathani Teachers College's version, tracing its original roots back to the traditional singing of the Lao Theung (Bru) people in Savannakhet, Laos. This specific edition was creatively tailored to establish the institution's unique identity. The performers are divided into two groups—the Savannakhet group and the Ubon Ratchathani group—to reflect the rich cultural heritage of both sides of the Mekong River. A key highlight is the newly composed lyrics by Dr. Chaweewan Dumnern (National Artist), sung to the traditional Savannakhet Tangwai melody. The performance features a full Ponglang musical ensemble and 21 standard dance postures. Additionally, the costumes are highly flexible, allowing for variations in fabric and color depending on the occasion, making the performance visually stunning and easily adaptable to modern stages.
