Mor Ah Jiang

"Mor Ah Jiang" is a creative Isan folk dance inspired by the "Pakam" elephant ritual and local beliefs of Southern Isan. The performance tells the story of the "Mor Luang" or "Mor Chang" (Mor Ah Jiang/Elephant Master), who possesses powerful magic and incantations to control, calm, and command elephants. The dance also depicts the sacred invocation of the master's teacher, the "Kinnaree," a graceful and powerful mythological figure believed to protect the elephants. The choreography beautifully contrasts the fierce, mystical movements of the elephant masters with the elegant, delicate dance of the Kinnaree.
