Fon Hang Nok Yung (Peacock Tail Dance)

"Fon Hang Nok Yung" is a unique traditional dance from Nakhon Phanom Province with over a century of history. It was created by Ta Phan Hemhong, a highly skilled former martial arts and sword master, who blended his sword dance techniques with the elegant movements of a peacock displaying its tail. Historically, it was performed solo on the prow of famous racing boats during the End of Buddhist Lent festival to pay homage to the City Pillar Shrine before the race. Known for requiring highly graceful and delicate movements, the dance is now preserved by the Silp Isan Ponglang Band, featuring male dancers dressed in traditional white long-sleeved shirts and Jong Kraben, reflecting the attire of ancient government officials.
