Hom Kathup Bucha

Hom Kathup Bucha" is a creative Isan folk dance conceived by the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts and Cultural Science at Mahasarakham University. The performance is inspired by the ancient "Hom Kathup" (Kathup tree parade) tradition of Phu Khiao District, Chaiyaphum Province, which is celebrated annually at the end of Buddhist Lent (Ok Phansa). Lighting the Kathup tree symbolizes the worship of the Jambudvipa tree and honors the Lord Buddha's descent from Tavatimsa Heaven. Choreographed under the concept of "Isan Phiphat," this masterpiece beautifully reflects the deep faith, devotion, and spiritual energy of the local Isan Buddhists, transforming a valuable societal tradition into a stunning theatrical art form.
