Kha Lam

"Kha Lam" (Taboo) is a contemporary folk dance performance that won the 2nd Runner-up award at the 1st "ISAN FOLK EXPERIMENT" competition for high schools in Northeastern Thailand, competing for the Royal Trophy of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. This performance conveys the story of "Kha Lam," the sacred taboos and traditional codes of conduct among the Kuy Achiang (an elephant-herding ethnic group) in Surin province. Through captivating and dynamic contemporary choreography, it powerfully reflects their way of life, reverence for the laws of nature, mystical beliefs, and the inevitable consequences of violating these sacred traditions.
