Som Sa-ang Kang Kung

"Som Sa-ang Kang Kung" is a creative Isan traditional dance performance inspired by the study of "Hoop Taem," the local Isan mural paintings dating back to 1917, found at Wat Photharam, Wat Pa Lelai, and Wat Phuang Wararam in Maha Sarakham Province. The word "Kang" in the Isan dialect refers to the act of shielding or unfolding, such as opening an umbrella. Utilizing the umbrella as a key prop, this graceful choreography brings to life the stories, lifestyles, social contexts, and vintage attire depicted in the murals, including the vibrant parade processions of the Boon Phawet festival.
