Fon Lakhon Phu Thai

"Fon Lakhon Phu Thai" is a traditional folk performance by the Phu Thai people of Ban Phon, Kham Muang District, Kalasin Province. Rooted in the Bun Bang Fai (Rocket Festival) tradition, this performance is highly unique compared to other Phu Thai groups. It features an all-male cast dressed in black Phu Thai attire, adorned with Phrae Wa silk sashes and woven hats. A defining characteristic is the wearing of long artificial fingernails—similar to the Fon Klong Tum or Soeng Bang Fai dances—and the processional format where dancers move forward continuously, rather than dancing in a stationary circle. Evolving through three eras (Traditional, Revival, and Applied), the choreography is now standardized into five distinct postures: Walking, Side Dance, High Hand Swing, Turning, and Ending.
