Fon Chon Phao Nam Tao Pung (The Nam Tao Pung Ethnic Dance)
Creator:Kalasin College of Dramatic Arts
"Fon Chon Phao Nam Tao Pung" portrays an ancient literary myth from the Mekong River basin regarding the origin of humanity. According to the legend, various ethnic groups emerged from a giant gourd (Nam Tao Pung) after it was pierced, symbolizing that despite their diversity, all people in the region share a common ancestry. The performance is divided into four acts: narrating the legend of the giant gourd, showcasing the unique identities of seven different ethnic groups, demonstrating their unity and harmony, and concluding with a tribute dance honoring Phaya Thaen, the supreme ancestral deity of the Mekong River basin.
