Fon Phuk Siao (Friendship Binding Dance)

Fon Phuk Siao" is a performance created by the Sinsai Ponglang Band of Khon Kaen University, originally for a ponglang band championship. The core concept translates the Isan "Phuk Siao" tradition into graceful choreography. In the Isan dialect, "Siao" means a true friend or life-long companion. The tradition involves two individuals binding their friendship before sacred spirits and the community, pledging to be true friends through life and death. This meaningful dance has evolved into a standard performance used in major provincial ceremonies, such as the worship ceremony for Khon Kaen's 10 sacred entities and the International Silk Festival.
