Chunlachaiyapakon
Creator:Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University
"Chunlachaiyapakon" is a creative Isan folk dance performance presented by 4th-year students of the Folk Music and Thai Dance programs, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University (16th Sinsai Showcase). Inspired by the "Chunlachaiyapakon" or "Chai Noi" chant, it recounts the Lord Buddha's victory over Mara through mindfulness, wisdom, and compassion without resorting to violence. The choreography beautifully interprets the life of the Buddha, from his Great Renunciation and confrontation with Mara to the emergence of Phra Mae Thorani (Mother Earth) washing away obstacles. It culminates in his Enlightenment and the recitation of the sacred chant, accompanied by celestial blessings from deities, reflecting the Buddhist virtues of perseverance, merit accumulation, and wisdom.
