Mahantasakkara Somphot
Creator:Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts and Cultural Science, Mahasarakham University
"Mahantasakkara Somphot" is a creative Isan folk dance performance inspired by the Urangkhani Tan (Uranga Nidhana) or the extended version of the Phra That Phanom Chronicle compiled by Phra Thammarachanuwat. The piece specifically focuses on the "Ban Thep Chao Samoson" (Assembly of Deities) episode, depicting Lord Indra, his consorts, and angels descending to perform a grand worship ceremony for the Urangkhathat (Breastbone relic) stupa at Doi Kappanakiri. Through careful analysis of literature, language, music, and costumes, this choreography beautifully reflects the profound belief and unwavering faith of the people on both sides of the Mekong River towards Phra That Phanom from the past to the present.
