Core Information

Fon Phu Thai Sam Phao (Dance of the Three Phu Thai Tribes)

Creator:Roi Et College of Dramatic Arts

"Fon Phu Thai Sam Phao" is a traditional Isan folk dance created in 1979 by the Fine Arts Department and the Roi Et College of Dramatic Arts. Following extensive field research in Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon, and Nakhon Phanom (which then included Mukdahan), the performance was designed to preserve and compare the unique choreographic styles of the Phu Thai ethnic groups residing along the Phu Phan mountain range. The dance sequence highlights three distinct styles: Phu Thai Kalasin (graceful, synchronized shoulder and hand movements), Phu Thai Sakon Nakhon (agile and vibrant), and Phu Thai Renu Nakhon (sweet and humble). All accompanied by lively, rhythmic Phu Thai folk music.
