Core Information

Fon Phu Thai Sakon Nakhon (Sakon Nakhon Teachers College Edition)

Creator:Kaen Sin Ratchaphruek Club, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University

"Fon Phu Thai Sakon Nakhon (Sakon Nakhon Teachers College Edition)" is a traditional folk dance deeply connected to the legend of the Phra That Choeng Chum stupa, where the Phu Thai people historically volunteered to provide offerings and perform worship rituals. Originally a local dance for entertainment and ceremonies, it was later refined by the Art Education Department of the Sakon Nakhon Teachers College (now Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University). By adapting fundamental local postures, they created a standardized choreography for educational and preservation purposes that is widely recognized today. The all-female cast is dressed in striking indigo-dyed long-sleeved shirts with red trim, Mudmee or Khit tube skirts, red sashes, and long artificial fingernails wrapped in colorful threads. The graceful choreography features classic postures such as the Wai Khru, Cho Muang, and Lotus Bloom. Accompanied by the Phu Thai Loe Tup or Phu Thai Yai melodies, the lyrics beautifully narrate nature, the local lifestyle, and the veneration of Phra That Choeng Chum.
